TF2 (PC) new content and free weekend.
I know with the recent release of GTA IV some things get overshadowed. Nevertheless, I know there are still some Team Fortress 2 fans out there and some that have not experienced it. Well as of this last Tuesday the Medic update and a new game play type called payload has been released. This new update is the first of many that will change the some of the functionalities of each individual class (some new toys to play with).
For those who have not experienced TF2 yet here is your chance. You have a chance to experience it during this weekend with TF2 being able to play for free from today till Sunday. Just download the Steam client and upload the TF2 content.
--------------------------------
EDIT June 18th: Pyro Update included at the bottom now (post #19).

Yep, read about it on Steam. I do think Valve did a good job making TF2 (they made it fun on pub, which was not exactly the case with TFC/FF), but I'm no great fan of it as I don't like the cartoon graphics.

Having half the team roll medic to get the achievements is pretty annoying
However, goldrush is great fun so it makes up for that.

I officially wanna /kick steam. The fricking new medic achievement guns are so annoying, its not even funny. Seriously, i now see a medic with another medic, one of them which has the uber saw other heals the uber saw. Uber saw charges, then heals other medic, it gets frustrating and annoying. The 3 health per hit syringe gun also makes me mad. Seriously, im seeing medics take down heavies now with these new weapons.

If you can't beat the 2x ubersaw medic combo as a demo or soldier you're bad.

QFT,
wish they'd just waited and released achievements for all classes at the same time, to avoid everyone playing the one profession. But given how long its taken for one set of achievements to come through, it could be years before all the classes get some attention

I had a feeling that some of this “dislike” was going transition over here, after bringing up the subject (especially after seeing the steam forums). I know it’s perfectly legitimate argument about why the new medic update brings a few “woes” to the TF2 table. However, I can see where Valve is coming from when they started on this. First of all the idea was basically a test, like most of Valves ideas. Valve had the idea to add in new content past TF2 original launch date to suppress some of the criticisms on the original state of the game. A few which included that there were not many types of gameplay modes and just a handful of maps, which people could participate in.
Why the Medic class got the first update and the rest of the classes did not? It’s because of another criticism that was made about the class not being practically useful. I don’t know what Valve has discovered over the past few days about the medic update, but believe me when I say, “they usually listen.”

As the saying goes “to each his own,” which of course means you’re entitled to your opinion. My view on the subject matter has always been in the opposite direction. I severely dislike neo-realistic games. This is one of the many reasons why you will not see me picking up Call of Duty 4 (CoD4). I find it a bit hypocritical to create an extreme realistic and serious atmosphere in a virtual reality device. When I buy a game, it’s to escape the confines of reality or bend it to the will of the human imagination, and not to be barraged by the everyday life we experience in junction to it. The whole terrorism thing for example has been "beaten to death" in the recent years with this artificial take on it (I rather watch the local news).

This is of course understandable. Nevertheless, I will be one of the few that will wait for the PC version of this game. The PC version will probably be the superior of the two versions that are out there right now. After getting used to the whole mod community behind this series; I rather wait. Besides I know myself once I finish the seeing the entire plot line of it, I will put it aside after a couple of weeks.

Not only has GTA controlled better with a gamepad ever since Vice City and the inclusion of bikes and helicopters (though this is easily done by using a USB gamepad) the only decent mod that came out was MTA. And GTA 4 has it standard

I understand your point, but with Microsoft’s recent fiascos and especially with some problems with the Xbox Live system; I rather not touch the system at this point. Furthermore, Sony’s problems with their system sometimes mirror the fact of “why did I not just upgrade my PC instead of buying this piece of garbage.” Therefore, I am going to pretty much stay away from those two until they get their stuff straight. I mean even Valve is having problems in trying to convey the idea how to get their new “free” updates/content to console owners of both systems.
I know I am missing out on one heck of a revolutionary game, but I can’t deal with these corporate loonies at the moment.

Update is fun, but tying the weapons to the achievements caused a hell of a lot more problems than I think was expected.
Plus, encouraging nearly griefing-like gameplay in the achievements (charging an uber then looking to kill a couple enemies while holding it) was a very poor idea. Let's hope they don't try something like this again...

The Pyro Update
Instead of making a completely new post, I decided to bring this one back from the dead. As of tomorrow (6/18) a new update is coming for the Pyro, which includes core changes to overall class even if you don’t have the new unlocks. Another free weekend is coming up as well (6/20-6/22).
It also has been announced that Valve has learned it’s lesson from the last medic update. Therefore, instead of having to get all the achievements (35 of them) you only have to get 25 out of the 35 to get all the new weapons.
Here is the primary update: Pyro Update News
Here is the PC Gamer Article about Valves thought process on the update: PC Gamer Article
